It is from the upper level of King’s Cross station that Khaled watches his old friend Hosam Zowa walk across the concourse towards his train to Paris before continuing out towards Shepherd’s Bush Green in the west of the city, his adopted home (in Hisham Matar’s exquisite recent novel, My Friends).
